Uses of Trulicity 1.5mg Injection

• Used to manage type II diabetes mellitus along with diet and exercise

How does Trulicity 1.5mg Injection work?

• Activates GLP-1 receptor, leading to glucose-dependent insulin release.
• Decreases glucagon secretion and slows gastric emptying.

Directions for Use:

Trulicity 1.5mg Injection will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse under the skin (subcutaneous injection) of your stomach area (abdomen) or upper leg (thigh).

Useful Diagnostic Tests:

Blood Glucose Fasting (FBS):

• Purpose: Measures blood glucose levels after an overnight fast (typically 8 hours).

Side Effects of Trulicity 1.5mg Injection

• Common adverse reactions (≥5%): Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite.

Quick Suggestions:

• You can inject Trulicity 1.5mg Pre-Filled Insulin into the same body area each week but try not to use the same spot.
• Store the pen in the refrigerator. When refrigeration is not possible, you can also keep your pen at room temperature (less than 30°C) for up to 2 weeks. Do not freeze it.
• Do not use Trulicity 1.5mg Pre-Filled Insulin if particles appear or if the solution is cloudy and/or discolored.
• Trulicity 1.5mg Pre-Filled Insulin may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain, which may get better with time. Eat smaller meals, limit fatty food intake, and inform your doctor if it does not go away.

Indication of Trulicity 1.5mg Injection

Trulicity is prescribed to treat the symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, either alone or in combination with other medications. It belongs to the class of drugs called Antidiabetics, Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Agonists. Its safety and effectiveness in children are not established.

Pharmacology

Trulicity contains Dulaglutide, a human GLP-1 receptor agonist, created using mammalian cell culture. It's a fusion protein with 90% similarity to native human GLP-1 (7-37). Dulaglutide's structure involves N-terminal GLP-1 analog chains linked to the Fc region of a modified human immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) heavy chain. It has a molecular weight of 63 kilodaltons on average.

Dosage & Administration of Trulicity 1.5mg Injection

• Initiate with 0.75 mg once weekly, may increase to 1.5 mg once weekly for additional glycemic control.
• The maximum recommended dose is 1.5 mg once weekly.
• Administer subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
• If a dose is missed, administer as soon as possible if at least 3 days until the next scheduled dose.
• Pediatric use not established.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• No dosage adjustment is recommended in renal impairment; monitor renal function.

Overdose Effects:

• Overdoses are primarily associated with mild or moderate gastrointestinal events and non-severe hypoglycemia.
• Supportive care is recommended in the event of an overdose.

Interaction

• May slow gastric emptying, potentially reducing the absorption of concomitant oral medications.
• Caution is advised when co-administering with oral medications, especially those with a narrow therapeutic index.

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.
• Contraindicated in patients with a prior serious hypersensitivity reaction to Trulicity or any of its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
• No data on the presence of Trulicity in human milk; consider the benefits of breastfeeding along with the mother’s clinical needs.

Precautions & Warnings

• Pancreatitis reported; discontinue if suspected.
• Hypoglycemia risk when used with insulin secretagogues; consider dose adjustments.
• Serious hypersensitivity reactions have occurred; discontinue and seek medical advice.
• Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment reporting severe adverse gastrointestinal reactions.

Storage Conditions

• Store in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C.
• If needed, each single-dose pen can be kept at room temperature (not to exceed 30°C) for a total of 14 days.
• Do not freeze.
