Description:

Lytex Syrup 100ml is a medication belonging to the class of mucolytic agents used for treating acute and chronic respiratory diseases associated with excess mucus. In acute respiratory diseases, dry and irritating cough, hoarseness in laryngitis, or chest burning due to bronchitis are commonly observed, followed by the formation of wet mucus and continuous coughing. Chronic respiratory diseases present both dry irritating cough and wet cough with mucus. Lytex Syrup contains Ambroxol which works by thinning and loosening phlegm in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, breaking down the acid mucopolysaccharide fibers that make the mucous thinner and less viscous, thereby removing sputum efficiently by coughing. The medication is usually taken as prescribed by the doctor. Side effects such as nausea, taste change, and numbness in the mouth, tongue, and throat may occur, but they usually resolve over time. Patients should inform their doctor if they are allergic to the medication or any other medicines, are pregnant, breastfeeding, have kidney or liver problems, or have a stomach ulcer, asthma, or cough for a long time. In children below 6 years, the liquid form is preferred as tablets are contraindicated.

How does Lytex Syrup works?

Lytex Syrup is a mucolytic drug (mucus thinner) used to treat both acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) respiratory disorders caused by excess mucus. Lytex Syrup 100ml aids in the treatment of acute and recurring bronchitis (airways infection), laryngitis (voice box infection), and tracheitis (windpipe infection), as well as chronic diseases such as chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As a result, it aids in thinning and releasing phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nose, allowing for easier coughing and relief from symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.

Quick Suggestions:
  • Lytex Syrup helps in thinning and removal of mucus (a slimy and sticky substance) from the airways, thereby treating various respiratory conditions.
  • Measure the syrup with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
  • Inform your doctor if you have suffered or are currently suffering from any stomach, liver, or kidney problems.
  • Do not use Lytex for more than 14 days, without your doctor’s advice.
  • Milk and other dairy items should be avoided since they may increase mucus production. To relieve coughing, avoid processed or refined meals. Green leafy vegetables should be substituted for baked dishes, fried foods, white bread, white spaghetti, French fries, sweet desserts, and chips.
  • Drink plenty of drinks to prevent a dry throat when coughing.
  • Citrus fruits should be avoided since they may aggravate coughing. Consume water-rich fruits such as pears, melons, peaches, and pineapples.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Indication of Lytex Syrup
  • Lytex Syrup (Ambroxol Hydrochloride) is used to treat a variety of respiratory tract problems caused by excess mucus. It works by thinning and loosening mucus in the nose, windpipe, and lungs, making coughing easier.
  • Emphysema is a lung disease that causes damage to the walls of the air sacs (alveoli). Lytex Syrup is used to treat emphysema symptoms such as shortness of breath, chronic cough, and enlargement of the lungs' airways by making the sputum thin, less viscous, and easier to cough up.
  • Tracheobronchitis is an infection that causes enlargement of the trachea (windpipe) and pulmonary airways. Lytex Syrup is used to treat Tracheobronchitis symptomatically since it relieves symptoms such as excessive coughing and thick sputum.
  • Acute bronchitis exacerbation is a rapid worsening of bronchitis symptoms (narrowing of the airways). Lytex Syrup can be used with the right medication. as it helps in mucus secretion. Thus, it helps to improve cough, difficulties in removing mucous as well as other symptoms.
Pharmacology

Ambroxol is a potent bronchial secretion agent and is the active metabolite of bromhexine. Ambroxol is found to be more effective in loosening sputum from the respiratory tract than bromhexine. The drug hydrates the mucus lining in the respiratory tract, which in turn enhances the fluidity and clearance of mucus through coughing, thereby alleviating respiratory difficulties. It also promotes the production of surfactant phospholipids by alveolar cells, which aids in reducing alveolar surface tension and consequently decreases breathing resistance. Ambroxol can also diminish bronchial hyperactivity. Apart from its mucolytic effects, Ambroxol has anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit the production of cytokines and arachidonic acid metabolites. In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Ambroxol has been reported to improve airway patency.
