How to Take Ceevit 250mg?

The best way to take vitamin C supplements is 2 - 3 times per day, with meals, depending on the dosage. Some studies suggest that adults should take 250 - 500 mg twice a day for any benefit. Talk to your doctor before taking more than 1,000 mg of vitamin C on a daily basis and before giving vitamin C to a child.

Indication of Ceevit

Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is a water-soluble vitamin, your body does not store it. You must obtain what you require from food, which includes citrus fruits, broccoli, and tomatoes.

Vitamin C is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It aids in the production of collagen, a protein that is essential in the formation of skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is required for wound healing as well as bone and tooth repair and maintenance. It also aids the body's absorption of iron from nonheme sources.

Pharmacology

The water-soluble vitamin Ceevit is easily absorbed from the digestive system and is present in all body tissues. It's thought to play a role in the biological oxidations and reductions that take place during cellular respiration. It is necessary for the production of intracellular and collagenous material. When dietary intake is insufficient and increased demand is not met, vitamin C deficiency arises. Scurvy, a well-known syndrome brought on by deficiency, is characterized by capillary fragility, bleeding—especially from small blood vessels and the gums—anemia, lesions on the cartilage and bones, and slow wound healing.

Dosage of Ceevit

Oral Administration-

  • 1 tablet per day is recommended for scurvy prevention.
  • Depending on the severity of the condition, the dosage for treating scurvy may be increased to 1-2 tablets per day.
  • In order to lower the risk of stroke in the elderly, take 1-2 tablets daily.
  • In all other circumstances, take 1 tablet daily or as prescribed by a doctor. The maximum safe dose is 2000 mg per day, divided into two doses.
Administration of Ceevit

Daily intake of dietary vitamin C (according to the National Academy of Sciences) is listed below.

Adult

  • Men over 18 years: 90 mg
  • Women over 18 years: 75 mg
  • Pregnant women 14 - 18 years: 80 mg
  • Pregnant women over 18 years: 85 mg

  • Infants 6 - 12 months: 50 mg (Adequate intake)
  • Children 1 - 3 years: 15 mg

  • Children 9 - 13 years: 45 mg
  • Adolescent girls 14 - 18 years: 65 mg
  • Adolescent boys 14 - 18 years: 75 mg

Because smoking depletes vitamin C, people who smoke may need an additional 35 mg per day.

The dose recommended to prevent or treat many of the conditions mentioned in the Uses section is often 500 - 1,000 mg per day

Parenteral Administration-
▪ Ceevit is usually administered orally. When oral administration is not feasible or when malabsorption
is suspected, the drug may be administered IM, IV, or subcutaneously. When given parenterally, utilization of the vitamin reportedly is best after IM administration and that is the preferred parenteral route.

Interaction of Ceevit

Potentially hazardous interactions: Ceevit is incompatible in solution with aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, lactobionate, nafcillin, nitrofurantoin sodium, conjugated estrogen, sodium bicarbonate, sulphafurazole diethanolamine, chloramphenicol sodium succinate, chlorothiazide sodium, and hydrocortisone sodium succinate.

Useful interactions: Ascorbic acid increases the apparent half-life of paracetamol and enhances iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.

Side-Effects of Ceevit

Ceevit has little toxicity and only mega-doses of vitamin C may cause diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and iron over-absorption that is harmful in patients with thalassemia, sideroblastic anemia, and hemochromatosis; hyperoxaluria, hyperuricosuria, and hemolysis in patients with glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. A pregnant woman taking more than 5 gm/day may suffer fetal abortion.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Ceevit is safe in normal doses in pregnant women, but a daily intake of 5 gm or more is reported to have caused abortion. The drug may be taken safely during lactation.

Precautions & Warnings
  • Read the product label carefully before use
  • Do not exceed the recommended dosage
  • Because of the risk of side effects and medication interactions, you should only use dietary supplements under the supervision of a knowledgeable healthcare provider.
  • Vitamin C supplements have a diuretic effect, which means they aid the body in eliminating excess fluid. When taking them, drink plenty of fluids.
  • The majority of commercial vitamin C is derived from corn. People who are allergic to corn should look for alternatives, such as sago palm.
  • Vitamin C boosts the absorption of iron from food. People suffering from hemochromatosis, an inherited condition in which too much iron accumulates in the body, should avoid taking vitamin C supplements.
  • Vitamin C is generally regarded as safe because your body eliminates what it does not use. However, high doses (more than 2,000 mg daily) can result in diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset. If you experience these side effects, reduce your vitamin C intake.
  • Before taking vitamin C, people with kidney problems should consult their doctor.
  • People who smoke or use nicotine patches may require more vitamin C because nicotine reduces the effectiveness of vitamin C in the body.
  • Infants born to mothers who take 6,000 mg or more of vitamin C may develop rebound scurvy as their vitamin C intake decreases after birth. Before taking more than 1,000 mg of vitamin C while pregnant, consult your doctor.
  • Patients with thalassemia and hemochromatosis may be adversely affected by increased iron absorption caused by vitamin C supplementation.
  • In diabetics, vitamin C may raise blood sugar levels. Vitamin C doses above 300 mg per day were associated with an increased risk of death from heart disease in older women with diabetes.
  • Taking vitamin C immediately before or after angioplasty may impede healing.
  • If you are undergoing cancer treatment, consult your oncologist before taking vitamin C. Some chemotherapy drugs may interact with vitamin C.
  • Pregnant or nursing mothers, children, and people with medical conditions must consult a physician before taking this supplement
Storage Conditions

Should be stored in a dry place below 30˚C. Keep out of reach of children.
