How to use Lorix Cream

Use Lorix Cream only on the skin and as directed by your doctor. Read and follow the directions on the label before use. Ensure that the affected area is clean and dry before applying the cream. After applying the cream, wash your hands unless you are treating your hands.

• Lorix Cream is prescribed for treating scabies and head lice.

Indications

Lorix Cream is prescribed to treat scabies and crab lice infestations (Pediculosis). In case of scabies infection, all members of a household must be treated together as it can affect the entire family.

Pharmacology

Lorix cream is a scabicidal agent used to treat scabies infestations. It works by disrupting the nerve cell membrane to paralyze the mites. Permethrin is only approved for topical use, and little is known about its systemic exposure or kinetics. Less than 0.5% of the administered permethrin is absorbed, and it is quickly metabolized and eliminated in the urine.

Dosage of Lorix cream

• Recommended duration of treatment varies based on age.
• Adults and children over 12 years: a full tube.
• Children aged 6-12 years: up to 1⁄2 of a tube.
• Children aged 1-5 years: up to ¼ of a tube.

Administration of Lorix cream

• Ensure skin is clean, cool, and dry before applying.
• For adults and children over 2 years, apply the cream to the whole body from the neck down, including all skin surfaces. Rub lightly until the cream disappears.
• For babies under 2 years, apply to the face, neck, ears, and scalp, avoiding the area around the eyes and mouth.
• Leave the cream on for at least 8 hours before washing it off. Reapply to any area that may be washed during the 8-hour treatment time.
• If necessary, use Permethrin cream again after 7 days, as advised by a doctor.

Interaction

Corticosteroids, which are often used to treat eczema and other skin conditions, can suppress the immune system and make it harder for the body to fight off scabies mites. This can lead to a worsening of the infestation. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid corticosteroid therapy before using permethrin to treat scabies. If you are unsure, it's best to consult with your doctor or healthcare provider.

Contraindications

People with a known hypersensitivity to any component of pyrethroids or permethrin are advised not to use permethrin. If nursing personnel frequently apply permethrin, they should wear gloves to protect their hands from irritation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Due to the absence of sufficient data on the use of permethrin in pregnant women, it is recommended to use it during pregnancy only under medical supervision. Permethrin is not expected to be excreted into human milk, and therefore it is not recommended for use in nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Symptoms of scabies infestation such as pruritus, edema, and erythema are common. However, Permethrin treatment may temporarily exacerbate these symptoms. It is important to instruct patients to avoid contact with their eyes during application and to immediately flush their eyes with water if the cream accidentally gets into their eyes.
