Indications of Rosuva 5
  • Reduce your "bad" cholesterol level (low-density lipoprotein, LDL)

  • Reduce the amount of fat in your blood (triglycerides)
  • Slow the formation of fatty deposits (plaque) in blood vessel walls.
Pharmacology

Rosuvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that is both selective and competitive. The rate-limiting enzyme in the conversion of 3-hydroxy methyl glutaryl-CoA to mevalonate is HMG-CoA reductase (the precursor of cholesterol). Rosuvastatin exerts its lipid-modifying effect in two ways. First, it increases the number of liver low-density lipoprotein receptors on the cell surface, which improves low-density lipoprotein absorption and catabolism. Second, rosuvastatin reduces the total number of VLDL and LDL particles by inhibiting VLDL synthesis in the liver.

Dosage & Administration of Rosuva 5

Adults:

  • The dosage range for rosuvastatin tablets: is 5-40 mg once daily.
  • Only use 40 mg if patients are not meeting their LDL cholesterol goal with 20 mg.
  • For adults with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: 20 mg/day as a starting dose.

Pediatric patients

  • Pediatric patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: 20 mg/day for children aged 7 to 17.
  • Pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia should take 5 to 10 mg/day if they are 8 to less than 10 years old, and 5 to 20 mg/day if they are 10 to 17 years old.

Renal Dose

  • Renal dysfunction Severe (CrCl 30 mL/min/1.73m2) without hemodialysis: Reduce the starting dose to 5 mg PO qDay; do not exceed 10 mg PO qDay if CrCl is greater than 30mL/min/1.73m2. No dose adjustment is required.
